Casa Tres Patios
The artist Tony Evanko with assistance from a Fulbright Lecturing and Research Grant founded Casa Tres Patios in March of 2006.
In 2006 there were few spaces dedicated to promoting experimental contemporary art. In order to fill this gap Tony decided to use the resources provided by the Fulbright Grant to rent a large house, with three patios, to use as a living and exhibition space.
The project quickly became an important addition to the contemporary arts scene in Medellín, and has become an important destination for artists from all over Colombia and Latin America and other parts of the world.
The original mission of the space was to open a non-profit alternative art space dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art in Medellín. The goal was not only to exhibit art, but to provide artists the opportunity to intervene in the exhibition spaces and create installations that they had not been able to create in more traditional exhibition spaces. Since then, the programming of Casa Tres Patios has expanded to include artist residencies, exhibitions, lectures, and exchanges between local, national and international artists and intellectuals.
